Significant Achievements

(i) Bioactivity guided extraction and isolation of marker phytochemicals-

Employing modern chromatographic techniques, viz.: CC, TLC, Flash, and HPLC, etc. Some of the notable achievements are-

• Anti-cancer (Arjunic acid)

•Hepatoprotectives (Phyllanthus lignans)

•Immunomodulators (Lupeol, ursolic acid)

•Anti-psychotic (Indole alkaloids), /span>

•Anti-filarial (Diarylheptanoids);

•Anti-ageing (Iridoids);

•Anti-inflammatory (Erandone)

•Anti-tubercular (Diterpenoids, curcuminoids),

•Anti-inflammatory (Erandone)

•Anti-malarial (Phloridzin, phloretin, taraxasterol derivatives,)

 (ii)Standardization of Raw herbs and their derived products

• Development of chemical fingerprinting and analytical/ noninvasive techniques of phytomolecules by     HPTLC, HPLC-PDA, HPLC-MS and HPLC-MS-MS, GC, GC-MS, NIR, etc. More than 40 standard operating     procedures (SOPs) for medicinal plants used in traditional system of medicine e.g. Withania, Arjuna,         Brahmi, Andrographis, Catharanthus,Senna, Rasana, Rauwolfia etc. were developed.

 • Defined the Chemotype of plant varieties developed at CIMAP (medicinal plants-26/ Aromatic crop-23)       e.g. Withania somnifera, A. annua, Silybum marianum, etc

 • More than 25 New Chemical Entities (NCEs) as marker chemicals for quality assurance of medicinal       plants

 • Developed more than 125 Botanical Reference substance (BRSCIMAP) for quick authentication of raw      and powdered herbs.

 • Defined Standards for Indian Pharmacopeia -Terminalia arjuna & Artemisia annua and Artemisinin ;

 • Developed SOPs for quality assurance of CIMAP herbal products.
